Sixth COVID Case Found; County Investigating Patient’s Contact History

Update: County human services Director Jaime Long gave an update just after 8:30 pm: “ All the individuals who had contact with this person for an extended period of time have been notified and the person is recovering at home.”

Original Story: A sixth case of COVID-19 has been found in Carteret County.

The county health department is in the process of tracing the sixth patient’s contact history.

“If the County determines there has been an exposure where large amounts of people maintained close contact with this individual, we will notify the public of what actions to take,” county staff stated in a release sent out Friday evening.

Close contact is defined as being within six feet of an individual for 10 minutes or more.

The county’s announcements of the first four COVID-19 cases specified that no information about the patients’ whereabouts or potential contact with others would be released. The announcement for the fifth case noted only that contact tracing was in progress.

This is a developing story.
