Beaufort’s Board of Commissioners meets for a work session at 4 pm on the fourth Monday of every month in the conference room at Town Hall. These meetings are open to the public.

Navigable Waters Text Amendment

Staff is requesting the board approve an amendment to Chapter 96, Navigable Waters, of the Town of Beaufort Code of Ordinances. The amendment would prohibit vessels from anchoring in the town’s navigable waters during a hurricane warning, with the exception of Town Creek Harbor of Refuge.

The amendment reads: Within 4 hours of a hurricane warning being declared by the National Weather Service, anchored vessels shall not be permitted in any of the navigable waters of the Town of Beaufort except for the Town Creek Harbor of Refuge. Vessels in town Creek during a hurricane warning must be adequately secured by at least two anchors, and all parts and contents of the vessels shall also be adequately secured.


Beau Coast Stormwater Presentation

Representatives from Beau Coast housing development will give a presentation on how the group plans to handle stormwater as the development continues to expand. No decisions are being made on this agenda item. The slides for the presentation can be found in the full agenda below.

What do Boaters Think of Beaufort?

Diane Tetreault, Beaufort Port Officer for the Ocean Cruising Club, will provide board members with information learned from nationwide and global boaters about their Beaufort experience.

  • Request for Approval – to change the date of the November Board of Commissioners meeting from Nov. 12 to Nov. 18 due to a conflict with the North Carolina Beach Inlet Waterway Association annual meeting
  • Grant Application – To designate town staff Kate Allen and Christi Wood as applicant agents for a hazard mitigation grant request for a generator for Town Hall
  • Appointments – Parks & Rec board members Liz DeMattia and Peter Crumley are up for reappointment. Both have requested to remain in their positions for another three years.
