Two Beaufort residents, Christopher Faison and Alexis Turner, are facing felony child abuse charges after Turner’s 2-year-old child was rushed to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville with traumatic injuries last week.
According to a release from the Beaufort Police Department, on April 23 at 2:37 pm Beaufort Police officers responded in mutual aid with Beaufort EMS to a medical call involving traumatic injury to a juvenile.
During the investigation, authorities found that the injured child was the victim of child abuse and neglect and was transported for immediate medical treatment.
A source who knows the family told the Beacon that, according to Turner, the child suffered a collapsed lung, broken femur, facial injuries and extensive bruising.
The child has since been released from medical care and currently in the custody of the state along with two other children who were also living in the residence.
Faison, 22, was charged with felony child abuse by neglect and felony child abuse by inflicting serious injury. He remains jailed under a $100,000 bond. His first court appearance is set for Friday, May 3.
Turner, 25, was charged with one count of felony child abuse by neglect and jailed under a $15,000 bond. She was released on bail Monday. Her first court appearance is also set for Friday.
Faison’s record shows he was convicted of larceny in 2016.
The incident is still under investigation.
