Carteret Community College is hosting a free outreach session to promote contract and employment opportunities with North Carolina military installations from 10 am to noon tomorrow, Nov. 8 in Joslyn Hall at the college.
The event is presented in partnership with the NC Dept. of Military and Veteran Affairs (NCDMVA).
Attendees will hear from:
- Representatives from NCDMVA
- Jo Rozier, Office of Small Business for Marine Corps Installation East, Camp Lejeune
- Scott Dorney, Director, North Carolina Military Business Center
- Don Spry, Eastern Regional Director, Small Business Administration
After the presentations, the speakers and representatives from Wells Fargo, the Small Business Center and the Chamber of Commerce will be on hand to answer questions.
In 2017, the NCDMVA and NC State University established the NC Defense Industry Diversification Initiative (NC DIDI) to study the impact the defense industry has on the state’s economy. As part of that work, NC DIDI created regional profiles of six regions in the state, including an Eastern region that includes Carteret County.
These profiles looked at regional trends in defense contracting, the different levels of involvement by industry sector, and how those sectors are impacted by defense contracts.
With this extensive information in hand, NC DIDI is moving forward with outreach sessions like this one with the aim of regional job creation through business development, attraction and expansion, workforce development, and community economic diversification.
